Empowering Breeders
BACKGROUND STORY
McNamara Precious is a homebred mare by McNamara Saw Mill, a Thoroughbred stallion renowned for siring exceptional polocross horses with athleticism and heart. Precious was broken in at Tambo, QLD, before returning to Karen McNamara’s property Overston for training and development.
Due to family circumstances, her early training was delayed, but once her campdrafting career began, Precious proved to be an honest, consistent, and willing mare. Karen describes her as one of the easiest horses she’s ever campaigned, always giving her all and trying her best, run after run. She was a pleasure to train and show, with a quiet determination and natural ability that made her a reliable partner in the arena.
Karen achieved multiple placings on Precious, including a second place in the open at Pittsworth. The mare was later campaigned by Maddie Maloney, making regular finals, before being taken on by Lauren Olm from age 10 to 12. Under Lauren’s saddle, Precious recorded two of her most memorable wins: the Ladies Draft at the Goondiwindi ASH Finals and the Novice Draft at Dalby, both large and competitive events. These victories were particularly special for Karen, who took great pride in seeing her mare succeed in the hands of other riders.
At 14, Precious was retired from competition and entered the broodmare paddock. Her first foal, a black colt born in 2024, is by Bawnduggie Condet. Looking ahead, Karen plans to breed her to her exciting young sire McNamara Con One Moore, by Hazelwood Conman, to continue the legacy of performance, honesty, and try that Precious so effortlessly embodied.
