BACKGROUND STORY
Born and raised in Taroom, QLD, One Time Design reflects both his careful breeding and solid foundation. Bred by Simone Laidely, he is out of Tassas Jay Jay by the American NCHA Futurity Champion, One Time Royalty. From the beginning, he showed promise. As a two-year-old, he was started under saddle by Cody Huff in Narrabri, NSW, before spending time mustering in the beautiful country around Walcha, NSW, where he learned and grew through his early experiences.
His first steps into competition came in the cutting pen under the guidance of Isaac Westerhuis. He entered the spotlight at the 2023 Tamworth NCHA Cutting Futurity, making the Open Futurity Limited Final and finishing 5th. Later that year, he added another highlight by placing Reserve Champion in the $15,000 Novice at the Goondiwindi Cotton Country show.
In early 2024, he transitioned into the challenge discipline with trainer Darrin Jones. The adjustment came naturally, and he quickly began earning solid results, including Reserve Champion in the ARBC Classic Challenge and a 4th place finish at the Rocky Rush Classic Stockman’s Challenge. Throughout the year, he continued to perform consistently across a range of events.
By 2025, One Time Design had entered Dan’s capable hands for his Derby Challenge year. Under Dan’s guidance, he continued to showcase his steady, reliable performances and adaptability, highlighted by his win in the 5&U Supreme Champion at the Toowoomba Nutrien Supreme. Across cutting, campdrafting, and challenge events, he consistently demonstrates intelligence, athleticism, and a willingness to please, earning respect for his versatility and dependable nature. One Time Design’s combination of natural talent, consistent effort, and good temperament marks him as a horse with a bright future ahead.
